marco, no polo

Disclaimer: I love my job. Absolutely love it. If I wrote down in May exactly what I wanted to do after I graduated, it would be my current job description. That being said…

I haven’t worn a polo-style shirt since 6th grade. For those of you who are good at math, that’s over half of my life with a polo-less closet. But, alas, all good things must come to an end.

And I can’t think of a better way to end an 11-year streak than with a bold statement like a hot-pink polyester breast cancer awareness golf shirt, right?

I’ve also went my entire life without wearing this shade of pink, but that’s another blog post…

It’s not that I really have a specific hatred for the polo, just the idea of wearing a polo brings so many questions to mind.

1. What kind of work-appropriate pants do I wear with a polo? Dress pants seem too dressy. Jeans are too casual for a Monday. My only pair of khakis are made of a material that clashes with the polyester. I actually had to go to Target this weekend to buy pants to wear with this shirt.

2. What kind of jacket/cardigan do I wear with a polo? The short sleeve, collar combination just throws everything off, especially with no buttons. All my cardigans clashed with either the shirt or the pants. My black jacket athletic jacket has mysteriously disappeared. And all my other jackets seemed to dressy.

3. What kind of shoes do I wear with a polo? First I tried some Toms. Then, I tried my old white Nike sneakers, but they were too dirty. Finally, I ended up with sparkly Keds, but I still am not really satisfied with that choice. The consensus today seemed to be brightly colored sneakers, but I don’t own any of those.

4. Finally, what kind of accessories do you wear with a polo? Certainly no statement pieces. Rings, necklaces and bracelets seem like too much. I settled on simple pearl earrings and forgot to wear my watch. But I am not hardly a one accessory type of girl.

Don’t worry, I survived the day. My husband dutifully told me I looked “stinkin’ hott” in my polo. And, I was glad to be comfortable while working the golf tournament.

And truth be told, I’d wear a puke green polo in exchange for a day full of these views every time.

Maybe you can help me. How would you style a hot pink polo?
