small town girl, big city life

In case you somehow missed this point until now – I grew up in small town Arkansas, where the chickens outnumber people and everything shuts down by 9 p.m. – 2,500 people tops.

When I moved to Siloam Springs for college, I upgraded to a 19,000-person town. I was perplexed when my classmates complained that there was nothing to do. “Are you kidding me?” I asked. “This town has both a Walmart AND a McDonalds. This is paradise.”

After I got married, I moved to Memphis. And now, for the first time, I understand what they mean. One million people in the greater Memphis area and as many things to do. Every weekend there are so many choices. All my life going to a movie was typical weekend entertainment, now we haven’t been to a movie in weeks upon weeks.

Festivals, parks, musicals, concerts, parties, sporting events
and more restaurants than we could ever properly enjoy. Somewhere my mother is reading this and has lost all hope of me every moving back home.

Here are only a few of our adventures thus far:

River Arts Fest

Shelby Park Trails

Orpheum Theater: Flashdance
