first fish family christmas card

Not to rat my mother out, but we never made Christmas cards growing up. Not that I blame her. Every time we did try to get the whole family together for a picture there was sure to be one Redfern boy crying and throwing a fit because he didn’t want his picture taken.

However, Daniel and I had so many photos taken with the engagement and wedding that making Christmas cards was as easy as it gets. Though, I admit, we did try to take new photos especially for the cards. One Sunday afternoon I got out my nice DSLR, fiddled with the settings, set the timer, and tried my best to pose Daniel and myself before the inevitable click.

It only took several times before this procedure got real old. Daniel is not one for picture-taking to begin with, but throw in the 10-second delay between each picture, and he became restless fast.

After about twenty times, I let him go inside and resume studying, and I took a chance with what I had. Needless to say from the engagement picture below, I didn’t like any of the outcomes. Either the lighting wasn’t right or one of us was in an unflattering pose. On top of that, the colors were bad for what I wanted to do.

In the end, I took one of our engagement photos and a simple design and made postcards using the money I won from Moxy Ox this summer. I liked the outcome, though I wish there was more contrast in the black and white photo. Looks like I need to brush up on my Photoshop skills!

If you would like one of our Christmas cards, just send me a quick email and let me know! We’d love to share our first Fish family Christmas with you.

Did you send out Christmas cards this year?

P.S. Congratulations to Stuart Creamer - one of my good friends and loyal readers - for winning my notebook giveaway

  8. Wasn't that so incredibly convenient? {Plus, I felt like I was really getting my money's worth for those photos.} Thank you so much! Hopefully I can put as much effort into it next year.

  9. We are still waiting for our cards to get here so we can send them out. I think you probably seen enough of Ayla's pictures to guess how difficult it was to get a "good" shot that didn't have some crazy face going on.
