the liebster award

So something exciting happened last week. Robyn from Invincible Summer nominated me for a Liebster award! “Liebster” simply means “getting to know you” and its purpose is to help bloggers connect. I particularly think this is great because I’m pretty new to the blogging world, and I’m excited to make new friends.

This is how it works. You can only be nominated for a Liebster award if you have less than 200 followers. Once you are nominated, you give 11 facts about yourself, answer 11 questions about yourself, nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 questions.

So, let’s do this!

11 Facts:

1. For the first 18 years of my life, I lived in a town of under 2,000 people. Now I live in a city over 1,000,000. Can you say “culture shock?”

I realize I'm not doing it in this picture, but I can! I promise!
2. I can touch my nose with my tongue – a trick that only comes in handy when you play minute to win it games or eating cupcakes with tons of icing. It's also my favorite goofy picture pose.

3. According to StrengthsQuest my top strengths are: Achiever, Competition, Significance, Discipline and Includer, to which my husband responds, “You do not sound like a very fun person.”

4. I am completely, 100% tone deaf and have absolutely no rhythm, which is probably why I’m fascinated by shows like Glee.

5. I played basketball all throughout high school, and my team was pretty good. We won the State Championship my senior year, and I was named the MVP of the tournament. And yes, I’m 5’2” and no one believes I was once a MVP basketball player.

6. The summer after my freshman year of college, I had the awesome opportunity to spend two weeks in Capetown, South Africa – a trip that forever changed my life. The Lord opened my eyes to the effects of extreme poverty and the country’s ongoing struggle with AIDS.

7. At my heaviest, I weighed 150 lbs. It doesn't sound like a lot, but on my 5'2" frame, it was a lot to carry around. I've lost over 25 lbs and feel better than ever. You can read more about my journey here.

8. I met Daniel the first week of college. After he saw me for the first time, he and his friends jokingly called me “Mrs. Fish” behind my back. {Who’s joking now?} Someday I’ll tell you the story.

9. I love working out. Absolutely love it. And, yes, it makes me incredibly sad that Jennifer Lawrence wants to punch me in the face.

10. I absolutely hate: feet, parking, intentional typos, ball hogs and deli meat.

11.  I absolutely love: chocolate. Can’t live without it. I did it for one year backin 2011, and let me just say: Never again.

11 Answers:

1. What are the top 2 most important things to you?
Easy. My relationship with God and then my relationship with my husband.

2. What's your favorite band?
I always dread this question because I love all kinds of music and am never super passionate about one artist or band. But if I had to choose, I think I would choose Switchfoot. Their music is so unique, and their lyrics are powerful and challenge you to think about your existence.

3. What 3 websites do you frequent each day?
I am a Communications Specialist, so one of my many tasks is to monitor my company’s social media sites. So, I spend a majority of my time on Facebook, Twitter {via Tweetdeck} and Hootesuite. Boring, I know.

4. Where would you most like to travel?
Everywhere! Is that an answer? Right now Europe is on top of my list.

5. What's your favorite photo of yourself?
Hmmm… I’ve never really thought about it. I loved my bridal shoot, but my makeup was super heavy, so I don’t look quite like myself. So probably the third picture shown above. It's from my engagement shoot and Daniel just looks so happy.

6. What is your favorite Bible verse & why?
As you can probably see from my blog, Psalm 139:14 has been a very influential verse in my life. But the whole chapter of Psalm 139 really speaks to me. You can’t read it and not come away with a sense of awe and wonder of how much our God loves us and cares for us.

7. What are 3 blogs you read regularly?
All the blogs below are ones I read regularly, and you should check them out! But, I can’t get enough of Oats + Oaks {Elizabeth’s younger sister is one of my best friends, she led several Bible studies I was a part of in college, AND she really inspired me to start blogging.} I also love J's Everyday Fashion for finding workwear, and I get all kinds of inspiration from A Beautiful Mess.

8. Why did you start blogging?
For soooo many reasons. You can see why I started the blog for the first time here. And you can read why I began again here. But really, I just love to write, and I love the relationships I’ve built and lives I’ve touched through the written word.

9. What is your greatest accomplishment to date?
It’s funny how fast your “greatest accomplishment” can change. What once seemed like a huge deal, like #5 above, now seems to have lost its meaning. Right now, I would probably say my greatest accomplishment has been landing a job in my field right out of college in a poor job market with little experience.

10. If you won $100,000 what would you do with it?
Something boring like pay for the rest of Daniel’s dental school. But, of course, I’d probably save a little bit for a designer hand bag or a new pair of shoes {you know, the important things}.

11. What is your favorite color combination?
Mint and coral - they were almost my wedding colors but then I convinced myself they were too trendy. If I’m not wearing these colors then I am probably clothed in neutrals. As Daniel likes to say, off-white is my favorite color.

  1. Thanks for the love!!! :)
“You do not sound like a very fun person.” Bahahahaha!
I'm glad you threw shoes in on your 100K spending spree... it's good to know you wouldn't lose sight of what's important if you won big! I'm a size 9 by the way if you're feeling generous.... ;)

  2. Congrats! Love your fun pictures and facts : ) I always wanted to play basketball in school, but I chickened out of the tryouts. That chocolate cookie looks amazing : )

  3. Oh, I am so excited about this!! Thanks for the nomination, Jenny. :)

I really wish I could remember what my StrengthsQuest results were! That test has been coming up in multiple conversations for me lately. All I can remember is that my top one was positivity.

  4. You're welcome! And, yes, he's sweet like that. Would a pair of Hunter Boots satisfy? ;)

  5. Thank you, Jenn. I had a lot of fun putting this post together. My best memories from high school begin and end with basketball, but my school didn't have tryouts, so I never had to worry about that! AND, I plan on sharing the recipe for that delicious chocolate cookie {that ever was} soon, so be sure to come back!

  6. You're welcome! And I happened to love StrengthsQuest - as boring as I am, I have to admit they hit me dead on. It really helped me to develop study habits that were great for me. AND, you are definitely positivity! That fits you perfectly.

  7. Yes, we did do it in college - our freshman year. There's nothing boring about being a life-long learner - you pick up so much useful stuff! I'm surprised I didn't get Responsibility. And, like you - I only had one relational strength {Includer} and I was proud of it! Did you find them helpful in college?

  8. We all thought they were so much fun! Even now when I'm with my college friends, we still talk about them sometimes. haha. I tried to guess what I thought Jordan's would be. I wonder if mine have changed in the last 5 years, though.

  9. Love this! I have had a chaotic last week but I promise I'll get mine posted asap!
