t3 - i love my lips

This winter has been particularly cruel and in turn, my lips have been particularly dry. I have always had a problem with dry skin, but nothing like this - painful, cracking lips, lacking so much moisture that even the skin surrounding my mouth was peeling! Every morning I would wake up to bleeding along the corners of my mouth.

Needless to say, I needed a solution.

Now, I’ve always been a chapstick queen – in that you can probably find 3 or 4 tubes in each of my purses at any given time. However, not even continual applications of Carmex, Burt’s Bees or those cute little egg-shaped Eos could fix these lips.

 So what products finally brought moisture and healing to my poor mouth and made me sing, “I love my lips! Bedeboobopdombeeboobopbbbbbbbbbbbb…” {VeggieTales, anyone?}

The answer is surprisingly simple…

The minty-ness of Carmex and Burt’s Bees only made my lips worse over time. I think the basic, unscented and unflavored characteristics of Blistex made it work so well. It didn’t make me want to lick my lips because it was so delicious, and its thin coats didn’t make me want to rub my lips together. I kept one on my desk, another in my purse and a final one in my makeup bag so I was never without its super-healing powers.

Even the magic moisture of Blistex couldn’t make it through the night, though, and waking up to painful, bleeding lips had me cursing winter every morning. Enter: Vaseline – or, really, off brand Walmart petroleum jelly. Such a simple solution, but it really works. The first time I went to bed with a thick coat of it plastered on my lips, the hubby literally recoiled after our goodnight kiss. But, hey, it makes my lips incredibly more kissable the remaining waking hours.

The worst part of having extremely chapped lips is the inability to wear lipstick, lip-gloss or lip balm. Lipstick makes my lips really dry anyway, but usually I can get away with a little gloss. Not this winter! Adding any color made my condition worse and just plain looked nasty with my peeling skin. Except when I used Baby Lips – I have a tube in almost every color because I love them so much. They keep my lips nice and moist year around and they are basically the texture of chapstick with the color of lipstick. The color doesn’t last forever, but the texture and scent make you want to reapply often.

{I have Cherry Me, Pink Punch & Peach Kiss, AND I just purchased the Dr. Rescue Baby Lips in Berry Soft.}

How do you cure chapped lips?

  5. heehee, gotta love the veggietales reference! I grew up on that stuff!! We currently have Burt's Bees and Yes To Carrots chapsticks knocking around our home. Of course I too often forget to put them on till my lips start bleeding...

  6. Pink Punch and Peach Kiss Baby Lips are my favorite tinted lip balms!!! Like you said, it doesn't last very long... but when your lips are dry you can still add some color to them without it looking all gross!

  8. Oooh I'm addicted to chapstick! I have approximately 11 tubes. Well, 10 now because I finally finished a tube. I personally love blistex, eos, and I have baby lips but I haven't used it in a while and maybe that's because I just rediscovered it under the passenger seat of my car.

  12. The problem with Baby Lips is that I need to have at least two of every color for my purse, office and makeup bags, haha.

  18. Oh man my lips are always chapped! Not just in the winter time, but also in the summer. I love the idea of vaseline, but my husband hates when I wear regular chapstick so I'm sure he would really hate vaseline! My favorite chapstick is Carmex.
