the best birthday present I've ever received...

When I was in 2nd grade, my parents gave me tickets to go see N'SYNC in concert, and I couldn't imagine a greater gift. My friend Jackie and I bought t-shirts 3x our size and closed our eyes through Sisqo's opening act of "The Thong Song," but it was a 8-year-old's dream.

On our annual date for my 14th birthday, Dad took me to the swankiest restaurant in Yell County, made me order the most expensive meals and gave me a beautiful pearl ring. He told me to remember how well he treated me on that date and to never settle for less than a gentleman. It was a night to remember.

A week before I turned 16 my dad walked into the bathroom at 6:30 a.m. while I was curling my hair to tell me to go get the newspaper for him. I was incredibly confused - and apparently used the least logical door - because my parent's didn't get to see my excited reaction to the new-to-me black Chevy Cobalt waiting outside.

Last year I was having lunch with my dad when I got a Facebook notification that a video had been uploaded of me. Dad told me to watch it while we waited for my molten chocolate lava cake to arrive. My best friends had put together videos of all my friends and family wishing me "Happy Birthday" in between spurts of crazy dancing to Taylor Swift's 22. I cried in Olive Garden.

Yesterday I came home from a long day of work, and Daniel was lighting 23 candles {the sparkler kind} on top of a chocolate cake with chocolate icing with the words "H BDAY JENNY" in white frosting. The guy who struggles making a sandwich had made the whole thing from scratch. Not a box. SCRATCH. I am still so impressed.

I've received some awesome gifts over the years, but these are a few that stick out. This month I received the wonderful gift of having some lovely ladies on my sidebar, and I think they deserve an introduction. In honor of my birthday week, they're sharing the best birthday gifts they've ever received - and let me tell you, they're some lucky ladies!

So without further adieu, please meet...

What's the best birthday gift you've ever received?

  6. It was so great - especially since it was something so outside his comfort zone. It's the little things!

  7. This was the first year that I didn't get to go have dinner with my dad. Growing up is bittersweet. But those father daughter dates will always be a special memory. As far as the car goes... Dad made sure to let me know that it was HIS car, I just got to borrow it. And all of the sudden my three younger brothers had their own personal chauffeur to all the practices, school events, church, etc.

  8. This daddy's girl is going to 110% agree with you. And I'm still so impressed with Daniel. I couldn't believe he did it all on his own AND that the kitchen was soooo clean when I got home. My birthday week was the best! And, yes, 2 sky divers and 3 hubby surprises. Y'all had some great answers!

  9. Well... like I told Rachel below. Dad made it clear it was HIS car and for my birthday I got to borrow it whenever I needed. And I usually needed it to cart three younger brothers around to different practices, events and church. So, just like out of a Christmas commercial plus the long lecture and list of rules that they never show, haha.

  10. Yes, it is! Is it your birthday month, too? And thank you! Lots of times, I know people just skip over sponsor spotlights, so I wanted to kind of camouflage them and make it fun.
